Headline Reads: Runner Causes Accident....and 10K

When we got back from California, I expected the headline to read: Local Runner Causes Accident. Luckily, I never saw this in print....but the story is a bit insane and comical so think I should at least "cover" it on here!
The day before leaving for CA, I was out for a run. It was later in the day as I had gotten Kaela down for a nap and Travis was hanging out with his Dad in the shop. I decided to opt for my 6mile town loop-- which means I run down 20th Street in Safford. As I ran in front of the clinics, a large work truck pulled out really far, blocking my route on the side walk. No big deal...it happens tons, so I just kept jogging along. The young man inside must have felt bad when he saw me coming, so he decided to do the considerate thing and make room for me by backing up. Big mistake! He backed up straight into a sporty black Nissian that was behind him! I tried to yell and I waved my arms as I could see this was going to happen, but he didn't notice and CRUNCH! I felt terrible and was in shock. By the time I made it to the wreck, the man was out of the truck assessing the damage as was the woman in the smashed car. I yelled, "I'm so sorry...I tried to tell you there was someone behind you!" and kept running. Like I said, I felt terrible and was in shock! By the time I made it a block up the street, I got my head on straight and thought I should have stopped....or go back....but then, I talked myself out of it. What if the young man was mad at the stupid runner who caused the accident?! And they were both out of their vehicles and appeared fine and they were right in front of the hospital in Dr. Wright's parking lot! I ran home and told Jason the story. He laughed....I did too, but I still feel bad for causing a wreck...and for not staying to help out!
My running is not always so exciting! In fact, Saturday I ran in the Hospital's 10K Health Fair Fun Run. It was not exciting....just cold and windy and only about 25 participants. My goal was just to do it in under an hour which meant I needed to shave off 8 or so minutes off the time I ran my last 10K in. I made it...barely with a time of 59:50! Yeah for me! Not bad for being lazy (I hate getting up early) and not running very often any more!

Oh my gosh, that story is just too funny! I'm glad everyone was ok, but how sad that being nice made him smash into that car! Still really funny though!

That give new meaning to the term "Hit and Run", huh?
